A Message From The Owners

Dear Prospective Guests,

Thank you for visiting our website and for considering The Manor at Panmure (formerly Maplehurst Properties) for your upcoming visit to PEI. Let us tell you a bit about who we are, what we offer and what distinguishes us.

While some people dream of owning and operating a B&B as a full-time business venture or retirement endeavour, we were not one of them. In fact, it was probably the furthest thing from our minds when we set out in 2016 in search of a small cottage on the east coast. We were contemplating a more balanced life after spending 30+ years as senior government officials. Our engagement with The Manor at Panmure happened rather accidentally. Attending a conference in PEI, an unscheduled trip took us to Panmure Island and then down an intriguing long laneway surrounded by towering colourful trees opening up to two stunningly beautiful properties overlooking Cardigan Bay. A walk on the well-maintained grounds and through the distinguished and exceptionally decorated homes left little doubt that this was a very special place.

Several years into the journey, while not everything has unfolded as we had planned, we can confidently say it has been an extraordinary and enriching experience, and truly a privilege to own The Manor at Panmure. We have had the honour of welcoming some incredible people from around the world. There have been doctors, lawyers, writers, musicians, entrepreneurs, politicians, teachers, law enforcement and the ever so special stay-at-home moms. As they say, “everyone has a story” and “everyone has an opinion” so this has produced some fascinating conversations and healthy debates! Through these random encounters, special friendships have been formed and several guests have returned on multiple occasions or shared the secret with others.

Having travelled to many parts of the world, we know that planning for a trip to a new destination can be both exciting and a source of some anxiety and trepidation. Will the experience live up to all the rave reviews and “hype”? What will the people be like and will it be safe to explore? And then that ever so important question, where should we stay? To make that decision we tend to seek recommendations from family and friends, but when that isn’t available, we rely on posted photos, descriptions and reviews. But as many of us have experienced, photos and descriptions don’t always match our expectations.

At The Manor at Panmure, we try to alleviate some of the unknowns. We deliver what we commit to. We don’t try to meet expectations, we strive to exceed them.  We recommend that you take a few minutes to read what our previous guests have said… we hope that will give you a better understanding of why we have consistently had superior ratings and have earned the honour of being part of the Inns of Distinction on the Island. Interestingly enough, two of our biggest complaints have been, “we should have booked for a longer stay” and “the pictures don’t do the place justice”.

As you will appreciate, maintaining our vast property to ensure the highest standards requires a lot of hard work and the support of many skilled hands. To this end, we would like to acknowledge the incredible dedication and efforts of Donna Young, Debi Smith, Kellie Lockhart and Myles Lord. Without them, we simply could not operate the Manor at Panmure.

Throughout our website, we have endeavoured to provide you with as much information as possible about the Manor and Summer House… the history, the surroundings, the style of decor, the amenities and the food. If there is anything that we have overlooked or you want more clarity on, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Finally, our mission and philosophy at The Manor at Panmure is quite simple... to share a piece of our Island paradise with others. During your stay, we will pamper you a bit but also respect your space and time. Nothing matters to us more than knowing that you were able to make special memories here that will last a lifetime.

We hope you will join us during your stay on the Island.

Ps - For those wondering why we changed our name from Maplehurst Properties, please know that this wasn’t an easy decision. Our good friends and previous owners, Bob and Marsha Leftwich, selected this name on the basis of the 6 red maple trees planted up our laneway. While we are grateful to Bob and Marsha for the wonderful property that they developed, we wanted the name to reflect the history and geography of the place… the design being a Georgian Colonial Manor and Summer House located on Panmure Island.
